Storage types which one to use - confusing

Recommended Posts

Hey ther,

I could see there are different types of storage/disks available in AWS. I am not sure to select the correct one for my requirement, is there any difference between these types and does it vary according to the size of the instance I need?

Hi james

Amazon EC2 instance comes with EBS (Elastic Block Store) volume. There are 3 types of EBS available,

General Purpose (SSD)

Provisioned IOPS (SSD)

Magnetic - Slowest/cheapest magnetic disk backed storage
SSD - Faster/more expensive solid state backed storage
"Provisioned IOPS" - FastEST/most expensive and guaranteed speed of input/output operations per second.
