  6. I'm really happy to share that I have completed 4 AWS certifications with the AWS Solutions Architect - Professional... My two cents for the aspiring candidates who are preparing: Professional exam really tests your knowledge in the topics and not a test on pure memorising skills. This exam is more focused towards practical implementation of different AWS services and how they fit together to solve a given business problem. So, do not rush for this exam if you do not have some experience working/building solutions with AWS. Please focus on understanding the concepts, benefits & Anti-Patterns of each AWS service clearly. If you have cleared the Associate exam, you need not worry about memorising some numbers/metrics. Here’s how I prepared: • Ryan’s video course The course is good for an overview, itself is not sufficient to pass the exam. Certainly recommended going through Ryan's 'Exam Tips' for each section, before a day or two of the exam. • reInvent videos - at 2x speed Re-invent videos are very long ones but definitely helps to understand the concept clearly. Again while watching these videos, no need to attempt for memorization. • AWS Whitepapers & FAQ - for any service I wasn't completely clear on. Core services such as EC2 (including cost models), EBS (PIOPS, RAID Configuration), AutoScaling, ELB, Route53, CloudFormation, S3, CloudFront, Kinesis. I got some questions on OpsWorks as well. Practice Exam was very tough. I also took WhizLabs practice exams. well worth, it gives you a lot of good questions to practice, which is really helpful. In the last 24 hours, I was mainly working on the practice exam question screenshots, looking up concepts I wasn't familiar with. I practiced the technique of looking at the last sentence in a question and quickly analyzing what is required. My biggest fear was running out of time, so at the start (before clicking start) I split out what question I should be up to at 20-minute intervals. I managed to get 77% and had 30 mins spare at the end. In my next article, I will share the study material I referred to pass this gigantic exam. !! What next? Time to book the DevOps pro exam to complete set of all 5 certs and get cracking. Happy Learning to all.

EC2 instance stuck in shutdown state

Had same issue many times. Whilst discussing it with AWS, they mentioned that they only charge for servers in "Running" state. If server is stuck in "Shutting Down" for hours, it wont be charged

Public IP change affects complete setup

Place that server behind ELB and for other services use ELB as endpoint. This will solve the issue BTW curious to know what makes you change your IP daily??

Cant SSH into EC2 until reboot

Probably a strategy of AWS so no one can relay on FREE TIER servers for production use. Just my thoughts!!
  19. Khalid Kamal

Cant SSH into EC2 until reboot

+1 @bhautz . I experienced that so many times and AWS doesn't have any answer to it. It always is t2.micro for me

Cant SSH into EC2 until reboot

we had this issue so many times with t2.micro. Is thats what your instance type is?

Public IP change affects complete setup

If those components are in same VPC you should be using private IP to connect to this server and this shouldn't cause any issues with you changing your public IP. That wont be the case only if the components you talking about are external
  22. This happens so often, our linux server stops serving web requests nor can we SSH into it so the EC2 completely stops working. But the status say 2/2 Check passed. We have a couple of cloud watch alarms set to send an email if system fails but they dont work either. Any thoughts on this?
  23. it happened to me quite few times now so wondering if anyone else has got same problem. My linux instances goes into shutdown state and stays "shutting down" for hours. Is it normal and will I be charged for all those hours its in "shutting down" start. TY
  24. we have C5.Large and for some reason we need to change its public UP everyday. We do it with using EIPs but everytime we change server IP, we need to change it in all other components which connects to this serve. Can someone suggest a way to making this process simple.
